FALL NEWSLETTER ADDITIONS

There were a few things that I wanted to share that weren't in my last newsletter...

I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was off to Lake O'Hara to paint. Well we arrived to 4 inches of snow on the ground and a forecast that kept pushing the sunshine to the next day. I was able to do three paintings despite the rain and cold, and the painting above is one of them. ("View From Sargeant's Point, 12x12" plein air oil).  I have started blogging again, after a hiatus of 5 months, and you can see more of my new work there. My hope is to post artsy things of interest and art tips twice a week from now on, as well as my latest artwork. Hope you stop by or subscribe to have the posts delivered to your email inbox.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES

After deciding to quit teaching a regular weekly class, I was approached by the Calgary School of Art to teach watermedia in travelling instructor Jane Rominishko's absence, so I have decided to give it one more chance. I still need a few more warm bodies to make this class a go, so if you are sitting on the fence, NOW is the time to call!

Monthly Critique Classes

I have been hosting monthly crit classes in my home with a few of my ex-students for several years, and it has turned out to be very profitable for them. If you don't want/need to take any more art classes, but still want eyes and suggestions on your work, this may be the perfect option for you. I still have room for 2 more students (max of 6). The cost is only $20 for each session, and we meet on Wednesday afternoons from 12:30-2:30. The first class is September 23. You can join as a drop in member, or register for all 6 dates. Please contact me for more information.

UPCOMING SHOWS

As of right now, I have three shows coming up this fall. The first is Calyx Disctinctive Arts, which I will be in on Sunday Oct 25 only. I hope you will come out to have a look at this great show.

The second show I will be in is the annual "Christmas In The Country" unframed art sale at the Leighton Art Centre. This is a wonderful time at the centre where MANY Alberta artists bring a box full of unframed and budget conscious original creations, perfect for your home or for gift giving.

The last show opportunity for me this fall is the I LOVE ART FUNDRAISER, benefitting the High River District Hospital Cancer Centre renovation project. The event takes place on October 2 & 3  at the High River Autoplex & RV (102-24 St NE, High River). There will be over 360 works of original art for sale. There is a GALA on Friday Oct 2 from 5-10 (tickets can be purchased here) and the show is open with free admission on Saturday Oct 3 from 10-2pm.

GALLERIES

I wanted to update you with information about a couple of new venues that carry my work. The first is the new location of Evanescence Gallery which has moved to 110A - 3rd Ave SW in High River. Arlene is in the process of completing renovations to the gallery and will be open next weekend, Sept 25, 26 & 27 for Alberta Culture Days. Normal hours are 9:30-5:30 Tuesday through Saturday.

The second new gallery representing my work is the new Palliser Fine Art & Framing, which is located in my own community of Oakridge. I have quite a large selection of work there, so if you are in the southwest of Calgary, please stop by and have a look at the art and the wonderful picture framing moldings in stock.

I continue to be represented by Fallen Leaf Gallery in Canmore, the Leighton Centre in Calgary, Just Imajan Gallery in Cochrane, and the CAVA gallery in Edmonton.

OTHER LIFE EVENTS

You are seen. You are known. You are free. Connect with a community of women that gets what you're going through... and with the God who loves you more than you know!

I am helping to organize the Women of Faith LOVED event screening at South Calgary Community Church on October 23 & 24. This is the farewell tour for the fabulous Women of Faith teachers including Sheila Walsh, Lucy Swindol and many more. It promises to be a wonderfully enriching time.  If you are interested in more details, please contact me!

These are all of the updates for this fall, which takes us up to Christmas (gulp). I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a heart warming Christmas with family and friends, and all the best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Blessings,

Sharon
