Some Fall teaching updates

Sorry for another email, but November is going to be a heavy teaching month for me, and I don't want you to miss any learning opportunities. Plus there is a new workshop in the mix!

This Friday, November 4th, I will be doing an ENCAUSTIC DEMONSTRATION at  Swinton's Art Supply and Studio from 6-8pm. The cost is only $25 and includes a glass of wine and nosh. If you are interested to see how a representational/impressionistic painting can be done using all the wonderful characteristics of molten pigmented wax, then please come on Friday night and have a look. Watching people paint is a fabulous way to spend an evening!

After that, on Saturday and Sunday November 12&13, I am teaching an INTRODUCTION TO ENCAUSTIC PAINTING workshop at the Leighton Art Centre. Your workshop tuition ($250) includes all pigmented wax, encaustic medium and brushes along with multiple panels for experimentation and image creation. Your fee also includes the use of hot plates and heat guns, along with other studio equipment and supplies. You will come away with a solid understanding of the medium, proper application techniques, and 4 small completed paintings.

NEW!  On the weekend of November 19 & 20, I will be teaching LUMINOUS OIL FLORALS at Just Imajan Gallery in Cochrane. The course description states: "The secret to luminous oil painting, I believe, is in using a transparent wet underpainting in vibrant colours, followed by a top layer of opaque paint, leaving some of the stunning underpainting to show through in places. Please join me in this two day exploration of that process, using a still life floral set-up, either from life (always the best option!) or from photo reference. " All the supplies are included in this workshop, you only need to bring a paint shirt and your enthusiasm!  On the first day I will lead a paint-along to teach you the technique, and on the second day you will try your hand at your own painting with lots of help and encouragement from me. The workshop is only $250 and you will go home with 2 completed paintings. For experienced beginners to intermediate painters.  Please contact the gallery at 403-932-7040 (studio) or 403-630-4234 (cell) to register.

The next weekend, November 26 & 27, I will be returning to Swinton's for INTRODUCTION TO ENCAUSTICS: LEVEL 2. This course extends and builds upon the techniques learned in Encaustic Painting Level 1. This intermediate / advanced program is perfect for those who are familiar with encaustic painting and fusing techniques and are interested in learning some new approaches to painting with the medium along with considering ways to build a personal series in encaustics. Your workshop fee ($295) includes all pigmented wax and encaustic media along with multiple panels for experimentation and image creation. Your tuition also includes the use of hot plates and heat guns, along with other studio equipment and supplies. You will go home with 4-5 completed encaustic paintings.

Don't forget the Christmas In The Country unframed art sale at the Leighton Art Centre on November 5,6,12 and 13th from 10-4 each day. I will have 15 especially chosen works there, along with tons of other artists. This a great event to do some lasting Christmas shopping for the very special people in your life.

In December I am going to REST!! We are thinking of going to Hawaii, so any great ideas you have of where to go, where to stay and what to do would be most appreciated.

Blessings for a joyous Christmas season. I will be back with another update early in the new year.
