JANUARY 11,2016

I hope that this new year presents itself with love and joy!

I have chosen INTENT as my word for this year -that means I hope to begin each day with an intention- rather than a list of things to do that is often impossible to complete. I want to think about living the kind of life that I want each day, rather than being tossed about by whatever things are thrown in my path; to respond rather than to react. Wish me luck with tha

Having said that, I was thrown into a bit of a tailspin last night when I got an email that said Calgary School of Art was closing its doors. While that made me very sad for owner Kathy, it also set up some panic as I was slated to teach a Fluid Acrylic Workshop there THIS SATURDAY. Luckily my friend Doug from Swinton's Art Supply saved the day and has kindly offered a studio for me to teach my workshop in. If you are interested in taking this one day class I urge you to contact me asap as there are only 4/10 spots left open.

I love to learn new painting techniques, and I just took a wonderful online class with the talented and resourceful Jane Davies on Monoprint Collage. I love learning and this workshop was no exception. If you ever get a chance to take a class with Jane, I highly recommend it. Below are a few of the paintings I completed for the class. They involve monoprinting with acrylic on a Gelli plate as well as making collage papers from other monoprints, and of course painting back into the images with acrylic paint. This was quite the "work from chaos to order" kind of workshop where the end is not in sight until you get there.

Besides the upcoming workshop listed above, there are other things on the horizon. Now that I have established a teaching relationship with Swinton's Art Supply, I am planning on offering some encaustic workshops this spring. The details have not been settled yet, but my next newsletter should have them all sorted out.

I am scheduled to teach a "Abstracting the Landscape" workshop at the beautiful Gibson's School of the Arts, July 25-28.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach there. As well I have been contacted about teaching in Medicine Hat in 2017, so things are looking up for my teaching career once again.

Monthly Critique Classes

I have been hosting monthly crit classes in my home with a few of my ex-students for several years, and it has turned out to be very profitable for them. If you don't want/need to take any more art classes, but still want eyes and suggestions on your work, this may be the perfect option for you. I still have room for 2 more students (max of 6). The cost is only $20 for each session, and we meet on Wednesday afternoons from 12:30-2:30 most months. You can join as a drop in member, or register specific dates. Please contact me for more information.

I am sad to tell you that I have left Fallen Leaf Gallery in Canmore. I am, however, excited to give increased attention to the other galleries that carry my work. These include Just Imajan Gallery in Cochrane,  Evanescence Gallery which has moved to 110A - 3rd Ave SW in High River, Leighton Art Centre in Calgary, Palliser Fine Art & Framing which is located in my own community of Oakridge and CAVA  Gallery in Edmonton

These are all of the updates for right now. I am working on getting some painting demonstrations filmed for my website, which is a difficult and time consuming project, with a huge learning curve, but I hope it will be beneficial to other artists, and of interest I hope to all others. I am in the process of updating my website and hope to have that finished by the end of the month. I have also committed to posting my blog at least weekly (remember that word INTENT??). Ok, I use the word committed here in a loose sense of the word :)

I will send out a spring newsletter at the beginning of March, announcing new shows, workshops and general information about my art and my life. Thanks for your support, it means the world to me!
