Winter 2017

Spring is around the corner -can you feel it??

Despite this, I am still firmly ensconced in my studio exploring fun things! I have been studying figure drawing again and there is so much online to help me out. If you have been reading my blog, you will see a recent post there about it.  I am also playing with encaustic and acrylic abstractions and I even managed to get out to paint in the snow on one of our gorgeous winter days.

I always look forward to January and February, as it is a slow time for shows and teaching, and I can dive into some creative explorations. Those explorations fuel my work for the rest of the year, and are very important to my process.

I am very THRILLED to announce that, in January, I won the Thea Haubrich award for BEST IN SHOW at the "Waxing Poetic" show for CanWax West in Penticton, BC. I don't often win such honours, so it is a very cherished event for me. The winning painting is called "Creekside Winter", 12x24" encaustic, shown below.

I do have a few teaching opportunities coming up that I wanted to share with you.

On March 11 & 12 I will be teaching another "Introduction To Encaustic Painting" at Swinton's Art Supply, followed by a studio class on the weekend of April 1 & 2. I am working hard to make the encaustic studio at Swinton's to be the premier place of work and learning encaustic in Calgary. The STUDIO CLASS is NEW and allows an opportunity for you to work on your own projects with my help. Each artist will have their own station with griddle and heat gun, an almost unheard of thing! Please call Swinton's to register at 403-258-3500.

I am also teaching "Luminous Oil Painting" at Just Imajan Gallery in Cochrane March 25 & 26, 10-4 each day. All supplies are INCLUDED and you will bring home two frameable paintings (one floral and one landscape), all for only $250. A great deal if I do say so myself! The process involves the use of a wet transparent underpainting, and the painting at the top of this newsletter and the one in the Midtowne invitation are done in this style.

The painting at the top of this newsletter is "Here's Looking At You", 12x12" oil on board. All of these new paintings will be in the upcoming FCA show listed below.

I am happy that all four of my new paintings shown in this newsletter were juried into the upcoming Federation of Canadian Artists show, with merit, at Edgemont Community Hall THIS SATURDAY. I think you will find a wonderful exhibition of some of the most talented artists this city has to offer, so I hope to see you there.

I am very happy for the opportunity to have another show at Midtowne Gallery. This time I share the spotlight with two other Calgary artists; Lorelei Boyce and Melanie Figueroa. The show runs from March 18-April 15.  That date of the opening is still a bit upi

As well, my work can always be seen at the following galleries:

Just Imajan Gallery, Cochrane

Evanescence Gallery, High River

Palliser Art & Framing, Calgary

Leighton Art Centre, outside Calgary

Centre d'Arts Visuels, Edmonton

I hope that you will enjoy this mild winter weather, and take in an art show or workshop to inspire your own creativity!
